Programmes to improve Environmental Protection
To promote the sense of responsibility at all Boehringer Ingelheim's sites, we ask our operating units to develop individual programmes to improve environmental protection. Our principles and underlying ideas are in accordance with the Responsible Care® initiative.
Minimization of impact
The quality and the results of the environmental protection programmes are checked regularly by corporate headquarters. Activities in the past five years have shown local results in:
- reduction of solvent emissions
- improvement of carbon dioxide balance
- increased energy efficiency
- innovative wastewater treatment
Responsible Care®
Responsible Care® is the chemical industry's global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations, work together to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.
The Responsible Care® ethic helps our industry to operate safely, profitably and with due care for future generations. It was commended by the United Nations Environment Programme as making a significant contribution to sustainable development at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.
